The Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR against wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as well as the organizers and their supporters for rioting and obstructing the work of government employees. Police have registered a case under sections 147, 149, 186, 188, 332, 353 and section 3 of PDPP. Earlier in the day, 700 people were detained in riots between police and wrestlers. 109 people, including the protesting wrestlers, were detained at Jantar Mantar.
Silence spread at Jantar Mantar as soon as the evening fell
Women protesters were released late in the evening and those detained, including male wrestlers, late in the night. Strict police guard on the borders of Delhi
Delhi’s borders were heavily guarded by police since Saturday night in view of the Mahila Khap Panchayat to be held in support of the wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar during the inauguration of the new Parliament. A large number of police forces and paramilitary forces were deployed at the Haryana-Delhi border and the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border. At the same time, the police had blocked the road by placing barricades, dumpers, buses, cranes and large stones made of concrete in the middle to stop the protesters.
They were being allowed to enter Delhi to check the vehicles coming to the border. The Deputy Commissioners of Police of the districts of Delhi adjoining the borders of Outer Delhi told that no one has been detained here. At the same time, some people who tried to forcibly enter Ghazipur border were detained. However, Khap supporters coming to Jantar Mantar in support of wrestlers were already detained at some borders of Haryana.
